The cooler weather (yes, the evenings do get cooler here in San Diego) always makes me crave something warm to drink. One of my favorite hot drinks, other than coffee, is tea. But this is no ordinary tea, this is Spice Tea. My grandfather used to always make this after dinner, but you can enjoy it any time of the day. It's really easy to make. Here's how: 7 green cardamon pods 8 cloves 1/2 stick of cinnamon 1 piece of ginger 3 black tea bags (I prefer Lipton) 3 cups of water 1 tsp of vanilla extract Add the water, spices, and ginger in a small saucepan. Heat on Medium High until the water boils. Heat on medium-high. Once the water boils add your tea bags and turn the heat down to low. Let the tea bags steep for about 3 minutes, then remove from heat and add your vanilla. Take out the tea bags and the spices. Normally, I add a bit of milk and sugar to my tea, but I had some French Vanilla Creamer in my fridge and thought, "Why not?" It was a nice little addition. I was feeling a bit spicy when I made this, so I added an extra dash of cinnamon as well. This how I like to drink it, but feel free to experiment. You can be a little flexible with the spices but be careful not to put in too many otherwise your tea will be bitter. You can also make this iced.
What is your favorite fall drink? Happy Eating!
