At the beginning of the year, I, like most people, made a resolution to eat healthier, workout regularly and drop a few pounds. Last year I made the same resolution and it was a complete failure. I managed to stick to my resolution for a few weeks out of the entire year but that's as far as I got. At the beginning of this year, I made the same resolution. As is becoming tradition, I haven't been able to stick to it. And I think I know why. With my schedule, the best time to work out is in the morning. I just can't seem to get up early enough. Evenings don't work for me either because I work a lot of overtime. Not only do I stay late, but I still have to sit in traffic so I already end up with a truncated evening. If I exercised after work I would end up with maybe 30 mins of down time after making dinner, showering, etc. That is something I am not down with. When I do manage to get up, I manage to do so about 2 times a week. It's better than nothing, but not enough to make any real changes. I've thought about getting a personal trainer thinking the cost alone would be more motivation but I'm pretty sure after a few sessions, I would end up not going anymore. It would just be a waste of money. I know, I know, if I really wanted to work out I would make time for it right? Why is it so hard!! The biggest challenge is my weekend eating. I have no problem sticking to a meal plan or making healthy choices during the work week. I can cut out junk food, sweets and soda easy. But then the weekend hits and all my hard work is lost. There's just something about the weekend that makes me want lay on the couch, eat junk food and veg out. Normally, I cook 4-5 times a week. By the time Friday rolls around, I don't want to be anywhere near the kitchen. We (my bf and I) end up eating out at least 3 times on the weekend and we do NOT make good choices. It's usually burgers, pizza or Mexican, you know something quick from a fast food type place. I also make breakfast at least once during the week-pancakes or fried egg sandwiches. All the good work, I did during the week is lost in 3 straight days of bad eating. Therefore, I need see any weight loss and not weight loss is why I lose motivation to continue for longer than 3 weeks. I need to change my eating for sure! I have discovered a few items I think are going to help keep me on track. The first one is coconut water. I love coconut. Not only does it taste good but I even use coconut oil in my hair and on my skin. I've had coconut water when I was little but I've never had a desire to drink it since. Lately, I've been seeing it everywhere in the stores so I had to give it another try. It's refreshing, good for you and is a great alternative when you want something other than water. Speaking of drinks, green tea has become one of my favorites as well. My two favorites are Kirkland Matcha Blend Green Tea (you can find it at Costco) and the Tazo Zen Tea. I like the matcha in the morning because it has a stronger, mild flavor. Zen has been a favorite since my Starbucks days--it's green tea with spearmint and lemongrass--so it's light and refreshing and tastes amazing iced--but just as a good hot. The last item I just discovered at Sprouts. In the prepared food section they have what they call snack boxes. Theyre so cute! They have some with cottage cheese, fruit and nuts or pita and hummus but my favorite it the one with cheese, grapes, trail mix and chicken. Honestly, it's enough food for lunch and an afternoon snack. If you don't have a Spouts near you, you could get some containers and make these yourself. I am renewing my goal to exercise and eat better starting today. I really, really, really want to stick to it this time. I'm so tired to being tired, unhappy and unhealthy. I know if I can just stick to it for at least month, then I am good to go. I am going to focus on eating better on the weekend so I don't undo all the progress I make during the week. I'm going to commit to exercising 3 -4 times a week for at least 30 minutes in the morning.
Do you struggle as well? What are your tips for eating healthy and exercising?
