I finally made it back to the Del Mar Gourmet Food Truck Festival! My boyfriend introduced me to this event 2 years ago. I tried to make it out last year, but plans changed last minute, so this year, I simply had to go. For those of you who aren't familiar with the Del Mar Food Truck Festival, it's held every August at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club (Del Mar Racetrack) in San Diego. The festival is a one day event where 50-40 food trucks converge for a food lover's dream. This year, about 40 food trucks attended. Originally, I wanted a lobster roll from one of the lobster trucks (there were two). However, the lines were way too long and it was blazing hot so that was a no-go. Next year, I will have to make a bee line to one of those trucks. Can you believe I've never had a lobster roll before?! I know, it's totally unacceptable. I've got to fix that one of these days... With so many food trucks, it was hard to decide where to go first! After much deliberation, my first stop was Belly Bombz. Belly Bombz is a Korean-inspired food truck that specializes in wings and sliders. I've had a wing craving for about month so it was the obvious choice. I chose the bone-in wings as opposed to boneless because, to me, they simply have more flavor. Plus there's just something about eating off the bone that is just so satisfying. There were eight delicious flavors for your wings. Since mom's always right, I picked Mom's Recipe which is a blend of sesame, chili, soy and a few other secret ingredients. The result: delicate buttery, slightly carmelly, umami goodness. The chicken was expertly fried-light and crispy, almost like tempura. I was in heaven! The wings came with a side of coleslaw. Now, when it comes to coleslaw, I can take it or leave it. But the coleslaw at Belly Bombz was such a pleasant surprise! It was a little sweet and vinegary and was a mix of cilantro, cabbage, carrots, miso and a hit of ginger. It was a nice crunchy, cool compliment to the hot crispy wings. Honestly, it's probably the first coleslaw I could see myself eating on the regular. My wing craving satisfied, I decided to stop by Piaggio Gaucho On Wheels, an Argentine food truck. I was pretty full so I chose something small-their Pulled Pork Slider. Honestly, it was a little underwhelming. The pork was bland. I couldn't taste the chimichuri and the pink sauce was non-existent-all I tasted was the Hawaiian bun. To be fair, the slider was really small and only had a tiny bit of filling. Second my taste buds were "off" because I had just eaten those flavorful chicken wings. While I was not happy with my choice from Piaggio's, given the opportunity I would still go back. They had some other items that looked interesting like their empanadas or their Chimichurri Fries with Pulled Pork. These are fries topped with pulled pork, pink sauce and chimichuri. I saw quite a few people with the fries and they looked amazing! My partner-in-crime, Nevada (you remember him right?), went to the Big Wave Grill truck and got delicious looking crispy shrimp tacos. I guess we both had a fried food craving, huh? A bonus to the Del Mar Gourmet Food Truck Festival is when you're all done eating (or waiting for you stomach to settle before going back for seconds) you can watch the horse races. If you live in San Diego or plan on visiting in August next year, you must make the Del Mar Food Truck Festival a part of your trip!

A food truck is something that I have always wanted to own. As a businessman, I have a lot of things that I need to consider. Of course, a food truck is not that bad of a deal, however, I still need to look at all the factors. If I venture into a food truck, will I be able to make a lot of money? That is the biggest reason why I have yet to buy myself a food truck.
