One of my goals this year is to eat healthier and exercise regularly. January was going really well. I worked out 3-4 times a week, brought healthy lunches to work and made relatively healthy meals for dinner. I even lost 3 pounds! But then there was last week... Because I work for a finance company, the end of the month is always very busy and highly stressful-the sales reps have to make their numbers after all. Month-end means I start work early and leave work late. I tried to mentally prepare for the coming week. I told myself I was going to stick to the plan and follow my eating/work out schedule. I wasn't going to let month-end get me again! Well, that was short-lived... Monday was pretty tough. I had to stay late and traffic getting home was horrendous. All I wanted to do when I got home was to take a hot shower and sit on the couch with a meatloaf sandwich in hand. And that's exactly what I did. "I'll workout tomorrow", I said.. Fail #1 Tuesday was no better. Because I hadn't prepared my lunch the night before, I grabbed some leftover salad and slice of meatloaf and called it lunch. I added in a couple of pieces of bread for breakfast as an afterthought. I was almost 11 by the time I realized I hadn't eaten breakfast so I skipped it. I had every intention of working out when I got home but as I was about to clock out for the day, some last minute work came in that I had to complete. It wouldn't have been so bad but that's exactly when my computer decided to freeze on me. Ugh! It took about 15 minutes for IT to get it working again. Needless to say, I was in no mood to work out when I got home. In my rush in the morning, I forgot to take out something to defrost for dinner and Nev had a taco craving, so Del Taco for dinner it was... Fail #2 By Wednesday, I was tired, cranky and not much fun to be around. Breakfast was my usual yogurt melange. Lunch was a frozen Lean Cuisine and dinner was frozen fish and store bought potato salad. And still no workout. I ended the evening with Coffee Chocolate Chip Gelato and Undercover Boss on Netflix. Fail #3. After 3 days of failing , I decided to throw in the towel and call this week a "trash week." My mind and body just said "no" to exercising, cooking or eating healthy. I was going to eat what I wanted and recharge my batteries. Thursday's meals were buttered toast for breakfast, another frozen entree for lunch (Herdez Beef Barbacoa Bowl which was surprising pretty good!) and The Habit for dinner (a Double Char and Onions Rings to be exact). Mmmm, onion rings.... After what seemed like the longest week ever, Friday finally came around. I just had to get through 8 hours of crazy and I would be done with this disaster of a week. The one bright spot in the day was lunch. My work provides lunch on the last day of the month- #1 because they're awesome and #2 because at month-end we are essentially chained to our desks. This month we got Jersey Mike's. I ordered the Tuna, Mike's Way of course, which I have never tired. And since I can't have Tuna without chips, I caved and bought Cheetos from the vending machine. It's been at least 2 months since I've eaten these neon-orange, crunch nuggets of joy. Can you tell I'm addicted? Today, it's Superbowl Sunday and what better way to celebrate than with I-Hop for breakfast. Since its the last day of my week of shame, I went all out an got Strawberry Banana French Toast. As I am sitting here writing this, I'm snacking, you guessed it, more Cheetos. Tomorrow is the start of a brand new week and I fully intend to make it successful. Out with the Cheetos and in with the fresh, whole foods. And exercise, lots of exercise!
Have you had a week like this? How did you overcome it? What is your food vice?
